Clarence Harper ’71 M.A. ’73 Receives Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award
Clarence HarperClarence Harper ’71 M.A. ’73 , a volunteer with the Neighborhood Emergency Team since 1995, was awarded a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from Americorps. Harper said he began volunteering with the NET team out of selfish reasons – he wanted to know how to make sure his family and friends were safe in the event of a disaster. But after getting involved with emergency preparedness, he said he realized the altruism of his actions. “My goal is to reach out to people who are disenfranchised and prevent what happened after Katrina,” Harper said.

Strawberry GattsDr. Strawberry K. Gatts, age 63, died of cancer on Tuesday December 30th, 2008. She held a BA in Psychology, a Masters in Public Administration and a PhD ‘05 from the University of Oregon in Human Physiology specializing in Motor Control and Biomechanics.

Kay Porter PhD ’79 Leads Eugene’s Spirited Walkers Marathon Group

The Spirited Walkers marathon group of Eugene celebrates their 10th anniversary this winter.  The group, led by Dr. Kay Porter, UO PhD '79, has helped more than 600 men and women finish the Portland and Eugene marathon as well as the Eugene half marathon.

Leonard Joseph "Len" Casanova (June 12, 1905 - September 30, 2002) coached football for nearly 20 years, from 1946 to 1966, at the University of Oregon. He is a 1977 inductee to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Class of 1959 Gift Set for UO Alumni Center
Class of 1959Responding to a challenge from last year’s reunion class (1958), who made a record anniversary gift to the Cheryl Ramberg Ford and Allyn Ford Alumni Center totaling $158,000, the Class of 1959 is excited to announce that their 50th Anniversary class gift will also go to the Alumni Center fundraising campaign. They plan to break the previous year’s record by raising at least $159,000 for the exciting project.

"The television was in the other room, and occasionally someone would check on what was going on a thousand miles away, where the Ducks were playing in the Holiday Bowl. He’d return with an update, and then everyone would get back to quiet conversations, prayers and tears around the bedside. Andrew Meinert’s fight with cancer ended Tuesday night, about 7:45."

Join the Governor’s Food Drive
ChildrenThe UO Alumni Association invites everyone to join the annual Governor's Food Drive.  Running from February 1-28, this food drive is the Oregon Food Bank Network's largest food and fundraiser.   Since its inception in 1982, the Governor’s and State Employee Food Drive has raised more than 51-million pounds of food.  The UOAA is participating with other UO and state employees to raise money and pounds of food for Oregonians in need.
