Oregon Made Possible, 2011 Thursday, February 10th was a day of celebration at the EMU with our second year of hosting Oregon Made Possible! The Student Alumni Association (SAA) would like to thank all of the UO students who came down to the EMU to pay tribute to those that help make their education possible. We had over 200 students visit our table and sign thank you cards to first time academic donors. For every thank you card signed, students were entered for a chance to win an iPad (no catches, they just had to sign a thank you card and get a ticket to win!)

Horace Henry Foxall, Jr. ’72 Elected to National Trust for Historic Preservation Board Horace Henry Foxall, Jr. recently retired as Manager of the Army Corps of Engineers’ Center of Expertise for Preservation of Historic Structures and Buildings. For more than three decades, Foxall assisted the Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Defense, and other federal agencies in developing historic preservation projects and programs, advising staff, architects, engineers, and outside consultants in the execution of historic building preservation. Foxall currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Ducks Giving University's Academic Council Endorses New Partnership The University's eight-person Academic Council officially endorsed University President Richard Lariviere's New Partnership after deeming the proposal's aim of improving academic quality to be feasible. Drawn up by request of University Senate President Nathan Tublitz, the council's "Academic Implications of New Partnership Proposal" concluded that a long-term stabilized funding stream would have an "indirect but highly significant" positive impact on the University's academic mission.

Ducks Announce Top 10 Recruiting Class Statistically speaking, Oregon’s 2011 football recruiting class ranked higher than any in program history. The two most established recruiting services, Rivals.com and Scout.com, ranked the announced haul No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, while newcomer 247Sports.com (SI.com's recruiting arm) pegged UO No. 12. ESPN, which produced at least one head scratcher in its analysis (see Colt Lyerla as a three-star prospect while the other three sites ranked him among the top five athletes in the nation), ranked the Ducks' class 14th.

UO Wins College Fishing Western Division on Lake Shasta The University of Oregon team of Kyle Schneider and William Crowl won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Western Division on Lake Shasta Saturday with five bass weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces. The victory earned the team $10,000 to be split between the university and the university’s bass-fishing club; $7,500 for the bass club and $2,500 for their school.

UO Ranked No. 14 in Baseball America's Pre Season Top 25 The Oregon Ducks are ranked No. 14 in Baseball America's 2011 college baseball preseason poll released January 27. The Ducks, in only their third season since reinstating the program, joined No. 9 Connecticut and No. 20 College of Charleston as first-time teams to be ranked in Baseball America's preseason Top 25, which dates back to 1981.

Professor Sokoloff Elected President of Physics Teachers Association
University of Oregon physics professor David R. Sokoloff has been appointed president of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
