UO Remembers Campus Community Members’ Passing

On May 25th, the University of Oregon honored students, faculty, staff, retirees and UO Alumni Association and UO Foundation board members who have recently passed away. "University of Oregon Remembers" was a day of observance to acknowledge the loss of individuals from the campus community. The event was organized by the Office of President.

The day of observance began with a ceremonial flag lowering to half-staff at 8 a.m. by UO President Richard Lariviere and an ROTC Color Guard on the north side of the Erb Memorial Union.

At 2 p.m., in the lawn area north of the Pioneer Mother statue between Johnson Hall and Gerlinger Hall, the individual names of members of the academic community who have passed away during the past two years were read. The intent is for the event to become an annual tradition before Memorial Day to honor individuals lost during the preceding year.
