Bach Festival Bargain for PDX Ducks
Based in Eugene, the UO’s Oregon Bach Festival is now producing its Grammy-winning music in three more Oregon cities June 23-July 10, adding a concert in Ashland to go with Bend and a new, five-concert “mini-fest” in Portland. Eugene headliners include superstar cellist Yo-Yo Ma June 23; OBF cofounder Helmuth Rilling leading the mighty Brahms Requiem June 26; and on July 2, conductor Marin Alsop’s theatrical version of “Joan of Arc,” a spectacular choral work with lighting, stage effects, and actors from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
The OBF presents the mythic opera “Dido and Aeneas” in Portland June 27, Bend June 28, and Ashland June 29, and ends the Portland series July 9 with Beethoven’s monumental Ninth Symphony and its thunderous Ode to Joy chorus. UO Alumni get a 15% discount for the “Ninth on the 9th” Portland concert. Visit Ticketmaster and use the passcode PDUX9. Offer ends June 24.
