UO Catering Hosts Faculty-Staff Open House at Ford Alumni Center
University of Oregon faculty and staff got a sneak-peek of the Cheryl Ramberg Ford & Allyn Ford Alumni Center on May 26th. The 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. open house at the new facility featured complimentary food, beverages and social time with colleagues, with University Catering using the event to introduce fresh, new menu items and service concepts.
University employees took in everything from the new Ford Alumni Center's Interpretive Center of Oregon-based "story streams" to its interactive alumni table that features the names of more than 200,000 alumni flowing over the surface. It is the first alumni center in the nation to use interactive media to provide visitors with information about the history of the university and its students and faculty. Nine towering, floor-to-ceiling cascade panels slide on a track system through the length of the interpretive center and act as giant iPads presenting movies, images, slide shows and UO maps.
The art in the Ford Alumni Center is provided by three prominent Oregon artists: Lucinda Parker-she created the large, mural-sized painting of a forest glen in the ballroom and has taught as a visiting artist at the UO. Rick Bartow-he is a Native American artist based in Newport and created the wood sculptures mounted on the south wall of the atrium. Tallmadge Doyle-an alum who teaches printmaking at the UO. She created the copper plates etched with images of native Oregon flora and fauna in the Randy Pape Hearth and Foyer space.
The Center features 60,000 total square feet of space housing the UOAA and Student Orientation on the first floor, Development on the second and third floors and the UO Foundation on the fourth.
The UOAA welcomes the graduating class of 2011 and their family and friends to a Grad Party on Monday, June 13th. Graduates can get their photo taken with the Duck, purchase their Life Memberships, tour the Center, enjoy food and beverages and celebrate their big day. A public open house is scheduled for September 30th.
