Chapters Engage Alumni across the US
UOAA alumni chapter members are hard at work organizing and hosting events throughout the year. Recently, the Portland chapter hosted a young alumni event at Davis Street Tavern to promote career networking. A panel of five alums from diverse Portland job backgrounds offered their experiences after graduation and provided advice for the young alums looking for career advice.
Looking ahead, several of the chapters have planned events in their respective areas. The Hawaii Chapter will host their Annual Membership Gathering, the New York Chapter will host an Alumni Summer Boat Cruise, and the San Diego chapter will host their 9th Annual Pac-12 Day at Petco Park. The Seattle, Bellevue, and San Francisco chapters also host their annual Duck Biz lunches where alums in the area get together for social time and networking.
The UOAA Chapters’ mission and purpose is to engage alumni in their local areas, build pride and value/equity in a UO degree, improve services and benefits to alums and provide assistance to the UO and UOAA. By having representatives of the UOAA strategically located, Chapters further the UOAA and university’s mission and continue to build membership.
The UOAA has a total of 21 chapters, including international chapters. At a membership of 44,469, the Portland chapter leads the pack. With the opening of the Ford Alumni Center, the Lane Chapter will take advantage of reconnecting Duck alums to the university via this beautiful new building.
In recent years new chapters have been added in Reno, NV, Eastern Oregon, and Sacramento, CA. To form a chapter, interested alums should contact the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and identify alums who are interested in serving on a committee for their chapter in their area. Committees are always looking for volunteers to assist with events and planning. To find out more, email jeolsen@uoregon.edu.
