Job Hunting? Helpful Advice from the Career Center

Did you know that 78-80% of jobs are never posted? So 21% of posted opportunities are being pursued by almost 100% of applicants. Given this fact, it is critical to discover jobs in our hidden job market. So knowing Ducks like to hire Ducks, connect with your local UOAA chapter. In addition, join all UO LinkedIn Groups, Twitter and Facebook pages to discover jobs, resources and events. The name of the game always has been network, network, network, so show up at events and engage.

Another strategy that has proven effective in growing your network and uncovering the hidden job market is informational interviewing. Once you have done your research and prepared, reach out to career professionals who work for interesting companies or are pursuing careers that you are interested in. One 30 minute conversation may lead you to your next employment opportunity and again your best resource may be UO alumni.
