UO Law Professor Keith Aoki
A memorial symposium and celebration of life at the University of Oregon’s Knight Law Center was held on Saturday, Oct. 1, for former UO law professor Keith Aoki, who died in April at his home in California.
Aoki taught at the UO from 1993 to 2007, and was honored at the October event with tributes to his work in copyright law, local government law and Asian-American jurisprudence. While at the UO in 2004, Aoki earned the title of Philip H. Knight University Professor. He specialized in intellectual property and critical race theory.
Aoki was also a comic book author and cartoonist. At the UO, he published “Bound by Law?” – a comic that presented information about documentary film, copyright and fair use. Aoki was serving as a professor of law at the University of California-Davis School of Law at the time of his death.
