From the moment I set foot in France I realized that there was so much more about the world, or at least France, that I didn't know. But more importantly, the French seemed to know everything about me. I remember thinking incessantly in my first month: "They did not cover this in my Culture Shock: France book." Overwhelmed by the speed of this new life/culture/language, I struggled to say even the simplest of French phrases and questions. I had jetlag, for the first time ever. Despite the seminar, I was overpowered by culture shock. Silly things like pink toilet paper, milk that doesn't go in the fridge, and having to hang-dry my clothes were consuming my thoughts and energy.
