UO Still Growing Segment of the Local Jobs Market
Out of work for a year in the midst of the worst economic downturns in decades, Jen Jones was at wit’s end. Despite strong experience as a Web programmer and a degree in computer and information science, she came up empty on 24 job applications that produced a total of three interviews, none successful. She went on food stamps. She started driving a cab to make ends meet. “It was pretty ridiculous,” she said of the local job market. “I was so desperate.”
