2010 Fulbright Awarded to UO Grad
Adam D. Brown, PhD ’99 is a clinical psychologist and a Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and the recipient of a 2010 Fulbright Award. His work as a Fulbright Scholar will consist of teaching, supervising graduate students in clinical psychology, and working with communities affected by the Tsunami.
Has worked extensively with trauma survivors and his research examines the cognitive, neural, and social factors associated with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He also has special interests in the intersection of historical, cultural, and individual memory within the context of human rights and public policy. As a Fulbright Scholar he hopes to develop a deeper understanding for how models and expressions of traumatic memory differ outside the US, and to create ways for Western countries to most effectively assist in disaster relief efforts that considers local conceptualizations of mental health. He completed a BA in Environmental Studies with a minor in Political Science from the University of Oregon. He received a Dean’s Fellowship to pursue an MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology at the New School for Social Research. He is on the Governing Board of the Society for Terrorism Research, an Associate Editor for Behavioral Sciences of Terrorism and Political Aggression, and co-founder of the New School Interdisciplinary Memory Group. His work has been published internationally and recently co-edited Memory and the Future: Transnational Politics, Ethics and Society (2010) and the Interdisciplinary Analyses of Terrorism and Political Aggression (2010).
