John Natt’s ’64 Blue Duck Scholarships Benefit UO Grads
UO alum John Natt has walked a long and illustrious academic road. First, he graduated from the UO with an undergraduate degree in chemistry in 1964 (and played for the Ducks’ basketball team while studying for his degree). He then went on to receive an MS in physical chemistry from the University of Washington in 1966, and then he attended UC Berkeley, where he received an MBA with an emphasis in allied economics in 1969.
Natt is now semi-retired from his post as the managing director for Clear Vision Associates, a business forecaster for the lumber industry, but he has maintained his relationship with the UO College of Arts and Sciences. One of his major contributions has been as a member of the CAS advisory board for the past nine years, where he now serves as board president.
Natt is also encouraging UO graduates to follow in his academic footsteps with two generous scholarships for those admitted to either of his own graduate alma maters. Natt’s “Blue Duck” scholarships provide all UO alumni admitted into UC-Berkeley’s MBA program with financial support. And the Natt-Lingafelter Endowed Fund at the University of Washington provides support to all UO graduates who attend the University of Washington’s Graduate School of Chemistry. So far, only one UO alumnus has taken advantage of the Natt-Lingafelter award, though four “Blue Ducks” have attended Berkeley’s business school with Natt’s help.
This year, $21,500 is available to an up and coming Berkeley scholar — which would cover approximately half of UC Berkeley’s out of state tuition, and Natt says there will be more available for the second year of the program. He also estimates that $8,000 is available to the next Husky. The only qualification, says Natt, is acceptance into either program. To find out more email lraleigh@cas.uoregon.edu.
