Art Student’s Design Selected for Eugene Celebration 2009 Poster

Jenny Kroik is new to Eugene, but her winning creative poster design captured the Eugene Celebration spirit. Her design was chosen as the graphic image for this year’s downtown festival in Eugene.
The poster competition invited community members to vote for their top three choices. All poster entries were displayed at the downtown Bagel Sphere café. Twelve entries were on display for a two-week period and over 400 votes were cast. This is the first year the Eugene Celebration has held a competition.
Jenny Kroik, who is working on her master’s degree in painting at the UO, received $250 in addition to having her artwork used in the Celebration poster, event signage, advertisements, and web design. Kroik was born in Russia and lived much of her life in Israel before coming to Eugene two years ago. “I like creating images that make people happy, “ she says. Kroik is excited by the opportunity to be part of this year’s Celebration — this was the first contest in which she has submitted her artwork in Eugene. She plans on graduating in 2010.

Kelly Cadigan, Eugene Celebration Development Director, said “I loved working on this new element of the Celebration planning. This was the first year we engaged the community in a poster contest, and this event is all about our community participation. We will continue with the poster contest and hope to improve and grow the process next year.”
The Eugene Celebration takes place September 4, 5, and 6 in downtown Eugene. For information and tickets visit www.EugeneCelebration.com.
