Career Center Alumni Job Search Works

Mollie, frustrated with her current job situation, signed up for UO Career Center Portland’s Alumni Job Search Group and commuted from Eugene weekly to participate. She knew she wanted to move forward with her career, but needed new ideas and perspectives for her job search.

Mollie graduated from University of Oregon in 2008 with a business degree and emphasis in sports marketing; when she began her job search she found it very competitive among her fellow classmates also looking for jobs in the same industry. Mollie said that she found the Alumni Job Search Group refreshing because it “created an amazing forum in which we were able to exchange ideas and think outside of our various majors.” Six months after completing the group Mollie found a contract position with Adidas (after applying three times for three different positions), a company she has always been interested in. Although she says things got frustrating at times, she thanks Linda Favero and her fellow group members for keeping her motivated and opening her mind to new job search methods. Mollie is now happily employed at Adidas, working in Event Planning in the Marketing Operations Division. Mollie advises recent graduates beginning their job search to stay connected with professors and other contacts. Along with reaching out to others she says it is important to stay positive and keep your head up. For more information about the UO Career Center, click here.
