Oregon Alumni Football Players to Host “Ducks in Tahoe” Event

Former Oregon football players Ryan Perry-Smith (’98) and Matt Lofrano (’97) were a part of many great Ducks teams in the 1990’s. Ryan on the offensive side of the ball as quarterback, and Matt playing defense in the role of outside linebacker. The two UO alums have decided to team up again with hopes of gathering Oregon Ducks alumni, friends and fans in Lake Tahoe July 29th – 30th.

The two have spearheaded the rebirth of the “Ducks in Tahoe” event in an effort to support scholarships for student-athletes through the Duck Athletic Fund. The “Ducks in Tahoe” event will feature a welcome party and auction on July 29th, followed by a day of golf, bbq, raffle and prizes on the 30th.

“We both benefited greatly from our experience at the University of Oregon,” said Lofrano, “and this is a outstanding opportunity to give back.”

The event is attracting many big names in the Oregon Duck community. Slated to attend are the two all-time winningest football coaches in Oregon history, Mike Bellotti and Rich Brooks, as well as Head Baseball Coach George Horton and the “voice of the Ducks”, Jerry Allen.

“The Northern California community has such a strong UO alumni base, and we hope to attract as many alumni and friends as possible to help benefit our alma mater,” stated Perry-Smith.

Lofrano and Perry-Smith also noted this event is not just for Ducks in California. The former teammates indicated the Lake Tahoe area as a great destination location for a nice summer get-away.

Beginning with the “Welcome Party and Auction” at Round Hill Pines Beach and Marina in Zephyr Cove, Nevada, attendees will have a chance to bid on packages including Oregon Football Game Suite passes, autograph helmets and jerseys, tickets to Oregon basketball and baseball games and many other great prizes.

The highlight for many will be the day of golf the following day at Genoa Lakes Golf Resort in Genoa, Nevada. Former Oregon defensive end Reggie Jordan (’97) resides in Eugene but plans to make the trip south, “I'm thankful my former teammates have brought the "Ducks in Tahoe" event back. Seeing former players and meeting alumni, friends and Duck fans is a great way to spend a summer weekend."
