The school year has begun! And with that, student fundraisers from the Annual Giving Program are also gearing up for one of the most exciting times of the year.
During the fall season, students call the Universities most dedicated donors. These donors range from 2011 grads to the classes that were here at the University with the famous Steve Prefontaine. Every year University of Oregon graduates show just how much they care by making donations even through a tight economy—and state budget, making things a lot easier to handle here at the UO.
Here are some examples of unknown Funds and what they pay for:
- The Parents Fund: This fund is one of the most versatile funds that the University of Oregon runs. It is geared toward parents of current students and parents of alumni who still support the University. With these donations, the University can provide resources that students will use every day. For example the Career Center, Teaching and Learning Services, SafeRide, and the EMU are all provided in large part by donations given from The Parents Fund. There are many more aspects on campus because parents give a little back.
- President’s Scholarship: An award of a full ride scholarship is given to the top 50 incoming freshmen and can be renewed for up to four years! This is great opportunity for Oregon’s brightest students, and encourages others to work their hardest to become a Duck.
- Dean’s Scholarship: Like the President’s Scholarship, this is a merit-based scholarship that helps out students. This scholarship helps cut tuition so that other sources of income can go to things like books, living costs, or unplanned expenses. This is a fairly common award to helping a larger group of students, even though the award is not as high as the President’s Scholarship.
Most donors give back to some aspect that made their Oregon experience unique - others give back to scholarships they once had. But no matter how you see it, each dollar spent on students goes a long way.
The University of Oregon’s Annual Giving Call Center - now located in the EMU - would like to show off their efforts. If you interested in getting involved in On-Campus Philanthropy (or philanthropy in general) send Evan an Email to
