UO Alum Tim Clevenger to lead UOAA

Tim Clevenger hired to lead University of Oregon Alumni Association

Tim ClevengerTim Clevenger, an alumnus of the University of Oregon with 25 years of experience in management and marketing has been hired as the Associate Vice President and Executive Director of the UOAA.
Mr. Clevenger will begin May 31 in the leadership position that is charged with building lifelong connections between more than 180,000 alumni and friends and the University of Oregon. He assumes the role from Dan Rodriguez who will retire from the post on June 30, after 23 years of service to the university.

“Tim has a strong connection to the University of Oregon and brings a career of strategic communication achievements to the UO Alumni Association,” said Fred Poust, president of the UOAA Board of Directors. “He will lead our team at an exciting time for the institution when alumni involvement is needed more than ever.”

The executive director is responsible for planning and conducting all alumni-related activities and programs designed to enhance the university and the UOAA. In addition, Clevenger will work closely with senior university leadership – including the university president, vice presidents, deans, directors and department heads – to build alumni support for the university.

As the chief alumni relations officer, the position reports to the Vice President for University Relations and the UOAA Board of Directors.

“Tim started at the UO as a student and has continued to be involved in alumni, academic and cultural endeavors on campus and in the community,” said Dr. Michael Redding, vice president, University Relations. “He brings a wealth of perspective and leadership to our alumni engagement efforts.”

Clevenger graduated from the UO with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and an emphasis in advertising. As an alumnus, he has held numerous leadership positions, including: past president of the UO Alumni Association Board of Directors; a member of the Journalism Advancement Council for the UO School of Journalism and Communication; and vice president of the Leadership Council at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

“The education I received at the University of Oregon shaped my professional path,” said Clevenger. “It’s my continued involvement with the University of Oregon which ignited a passion for this institution and its mission. I am proud to be able to share this passion with thousands of constituents through the UOAA organization, and look forward to engaging our alumni in support of the University of Oregon.”

Clevenger currently serves as first vice-chair of Associated Oregon Industries, deputy director for the Oregon Business Council, and board member of Association of Washington Business. He is also past trustee for the Lane Community College Foundation, past member of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council, past member of the National Marketing Committee for John Deere & Company, and past National Chair of the Hyster National Marketing Subcommittee.
Most recently, Clevenger was vice president of marketing and brand management for Eugene-based The Papé Group Inc. While at The Papé Group for 11 years, he led strategic planning, new business development, customer outreach and unification of Papé brands under a central umbrella following a period of acquisition and expansion. Prior to The Papé Group, he was president of SPC Advertising, an advertising agency with clients in financial, healthcare, fast food and software industries, and vice president at ClevengerWesting Advertising, a firm he founded.

In 1995, he was named advertising person of the year by the Mid-Oregon chapter of the American Association of Advertising Agencies. He also worked for KUGN Radio and The Springfield News.

Clevenger earned a master’s degree in business administration from Marylhurst University where he serves as a trustee for the Marylhurst University Foundation.
